Fresher's rush

As we all know, any kind of event in MHG is full of happenings. We all were preparing for our performance at the fresher's party. We had prepared a play and a group dance. The tricky part was with the song for the dance. The song was supposed to be a fusion of several songs. We got to know (from God knows who!) that there is a small shop in Lanka where this guy can fuse songs. So we went there (I don't remember how many days before...perhaps Deepika or Mansi might remember) to give this guy the songs and the instructions. He was like "Sure I will finish it".

Fast forward to the day of freshers. We had called the guy several times that day to ask whether he is done or not. He didn't answer our calls. So half an hour before the programme was to begin, Deepika, Mansi and I are in Lanka, roaming around to find the damn shop. We couldn't even find the shop! We're like "My God, he closed the shop and ran away!" and I was like "THAT'S why he wasn't answering our calls!". Then one of us (certainly not me) said "Hey look! There's the shop!"...we all giggled and went inside.

"Bhaiyya, hamara tape bana kya?" one of us asked.

I don't remember what he said but the thing was that he hadn't even started. Then we're like "BUT WE HAVE A PROGRAMME NOW!!"...He's like "Oh it doesn't take much time...let's do it now". And then we started to make the crudest fusion song ever to be created on the face of this planet. Basically the drill was that he would play song number 1 and then we were to tell him when to stop...then tell him where to start song number 2 from and where to end and so on. So here we were, instructing him 20 mins before the programme in Lanka. Needless to say, we didn't care about the quality of the mixing. We grabbed the tape, took a rickshaw and made it in the nick of time. We barged into the library room, washed our faces and that was all we could do before the programme started. The performance wasn't so bad in the end ;) but the experience was a memorable one :)

And yes, after this incident I took up the responsibility of making fusions on myself for the rest of the 2 years!

SCL is now honourable Dean, Faculty of Science

Since this blog has been dormant since 2 years ( :O ), I presumed many of the alumni must not be aware of this news.

Cheers!

SCL's comments

I quote SCL--

"Regarding the Alumni association - this is indeed a very good idea and will help keep all the alumni remain in touch with each other and with the department. At this point, there is no bank account for this purpose. We will need to open a fresh one, which I believe can be done without much problem. The only thing that will be needed for the bank account of this kind is a formal resolution about the formation of an association and to identify the persons who will be responsible for operating the account. Therefore, you all should decide on a name for the association and identify the local persons who will be responsible for operating the account. Obviously some or all of the current faculty members of MHG will need to be involved in this.
Also, go ahead with the idea of an interactive blogspot for MHGians. Theis interaction, especially the feed-back would be very useful indeed.

The enthusiasm of MHG alumni is indeed very encouraging and satisfying for all of us. "

Welcome

Welcome to the cyber space meant exclusively for the past and current students of M.Sc Molecular and Human Genetics (MHG) at Banaras Hindu University, India.
At the cost of sounding overtly confident I think MHG is and will always be the BEST M.S course in India. Those who beg to differ ..... should keep begging.
